Eagle Scout Profile: Luca Urbanic

Luca Urbanic Eagle Project
Luca Urbanic Eagle Project

For his Eagle project, Luca Urbanic chose to give back to a place close to his heart: West Chester Playschool, run by parents who roll up their sleeves and pitch in to help make the Playschool magic happen every day.

Luca, along with fellow scouts, transformed the school’s basement into a shelter-in-place area for the children. To make it safe and kid-friendly, the space was thoroughly cleaned and painted. Additionally, HVAC equipment was enclosed, and benches with built-in storage were installed.

Luca’s decision to undertake this project stemmed from his own positive experiences as a toddler attending the Playschool, making it a truly meaningful way for him to contribute to the community.

The United Methodist Church in West Chester was the setting for a memorable Eagle Scout Court of Honor, celebrating newly minted Eagle Scouts Luca Urbanic & Benjamin Pentz. After successfully completing their projects and boards of review, the two were joined by an assembly of family, friends, fellow scouts, and former troop members.

Eagle Scout Profile: Benjamin Pentz

Ben Pentz Eagle Project

In July, 2024, Ben Pentz completed his Eagle Scout project at Paradise Valley Nature Area, in Downingtown, PA. Ben constructed and installed a visitor information kiosk at the Valley Creek Road parking area where many people come to fish Valley Creek all year round.

A unique component of Ben’s project is the custom addition of a free fly library (dubbed the “Flybrary”). The Flybrary is similar to the popular little free libraries that allow people to share and exchange free books, except in this case, the purpose is to allow people to share and exchange fishing flies and lures.

Ben’s project will not only promote the Township parks and events but will also foster goodwill amongst the fishing community and will bring exposure to the artful and enjoyable sport of fly fishing. The location holds a special, personal connection due to its proximity to Paradise Farm Camps, where he attended summer camp for the previous 10 years.

Help Your Son Take Scouting To The Next Level

Three Fun Ways to Meet Troop 14 & Test Your Scouting Skills

Saturday, 10/12/24 at Camp Horseshoe
Boys learn to maintain safe, durable, and environmentally sound hiking trails that provide paths into nature for everyone, then cook a meal with one of the patrols planned by the scouts themselves. At the end of the day participants can choose to head home or join the troop for a night of camping*.

*Please note, parents/guardians must also stay overnight and have up to date YPT certification.

Monday, 10/21/24 @ 7:30PM
at the United Methodist Church in West Chester
Boys take on the challenge to earn knot tying with the infamous “Dr. Knot,” while attending a typical troop meeting.

Monday, 10/28, 11/4, and 11/18/24 at 7:30PM
at the United Methodist Church in West Chester
Another opportunity for cub scouts to attend a troop meeting and learn how our scout led meetings function, how areas of personal fitness relate to the Scout Law and Scout Oath, as well as practicing lashings and splices.

At all meetings Parents & Guardians are invited to learn more about the program and meet the adult leaders who are happy to answer any questions.

Open to boys between the ages of 10 and 17.
No scouting background required, so bring some friends.

“Our family loves Troop 14 because of the people. The leaders are so wonderful and my son has thrived in a smaller troop where he knows all the kids, older to younger.” – LAUREN B.

With a few exceptions the Troop meets on Mondays at 7:30 PM at the United Methodist Church located at 129 S High St, West Chester, PA 19382.

At meetings the scouts work on advancements, plan for upcoming camping trips, discuss the annual fundraiser or focus on specific subjects of interest.

The scouts go on a trip almost every month via the troop bus. In the past this included whitewater rafting, kayaking, skiing, axe throwing, hiking, biking, go karting and inter-patrol games. In July the troop attends Camp Horseshoe for a week of fun & learning.

“Watching the boys grow in our troop is a constant reminder that scouting is about more than just badges and camping trips. It’s about building character, fostering friendships, and developing the leaders of tomorrow. Each challenge they face is a step toward becoming the best versions of themselves.” – PETE NESTOR, Scoutmaster

We hope to see you at one of our gatherings.
